Steel City Choristers
Steel City Choristers are a choir of children and adults in Sheffield. Our core mission is to help bring the rich variety of Anglican choral music into worshipping communities of all traditions around the city and beyond, while providing young people from around the city a strong musical education.
Steel City Choristers (SCC) are a choir with a central mission to take Anglican choral music out into the city of Sheffield to reach wider and more diverse communities. It will share its music with a range of congregations to enrich the worship of churches from all traditions in every corner of the city.
Formed after the sudden closure of Sheffield Cathedral Choir in July 2020, SCC was formed to make something new and vibrant. Using the expertise of the Cathedral’s former choristers and adult singers, SCC has been able to quickly grow beyond that core and hopes to become an important part of Sheffield’s musical landscape.
The choir consists of children from 8 to 18 (the Choristers), and adult singers from around the city, including students at the Universities (the Clerks). The Choristers rehearse twice a week and the Clerks once a week, and the choir aims to support worship or perform a concert somewhere in the city once a month. See here for scheduled upcoming engagements.
