Live rehearsals are back!

News
Amateur music groups can at last rehearse in groups of up to 30

On Monday 17 May 2021, Prime Minister Boris Johnson lifted a number of restrictions, marking the commencement of Step 3 in the Covid-19 road map.

Advice was not released by the Department of Digital, Media, Culture and Sport (DCMS) until the following day, Tuesday 18 May 2021. That advice confirmed previous announcements and included the great news that amateur instrumental groups may meet to rehearse. This comes as welcome news to music groups up and down the country - and of course here in Sheffield.

'Professional music-making has been allowed for some time, though within strict guidelines of course' said Classical Sheffield Chair Jo Towler. 'But at long last amateur groups can also meet to rehearse live rather than online, which, though it's been a lifeline for us all, isn't anything like the same as making live music!'

Amateur groups may meet to make music . in groups of up to 30 people outside, and in multiple groups of six indoors - as long as the groups stay socially distanced of course.
