Music in the Round

Get closer to the music

Experience live music from leading classical, jazz, folk and world musicians, performed in the unique surroundings of the Crucible Studio, with Music in the Round.

It’s an extraordinary place to encounter music – both intimate and relaxed; where you get so close to the performers you can feel their excitement, see their energy and hear the control in every note.

Informal introductions and pre-concert talks mean you don’t need to know anything about the music in advance. And there’s never a dress code, just an open invitation for everyone, of all ages and all musical tastes, to come and join us.

Our resident group Ensemble 360, comprising eleven of the country’s finest chamber musicians, is at the heart of our autumn and spring concert seasons, and an annual 9 day festival each May in the Crucible Studio. Singer-in-Residence, the acclaimed baritone, Roderick Williams, is also a regular performer in our concert programmes.

The musicians of Ensemble 360 are also at the heart of our innovative learning and participation programme, committed to delivering activities for all ages and levels of ability. This includes a series of hugely popular interactive family concerts for 3 – 8 year olds based on story books, with specially commissioned music by our Children’s Composer-in-Residence Paul Rissmann.
