Sheffield Music Academy

Led by Music Director Martin Cropper, SMA is a vibrant and thriving music institution offering a comprehensive musical education to dedicated students in the region aged 8-19.

Sheffield Music Academy currently has over 110 students taught by teachers hand picked for their passion for education and professional background. Students must pass a rigorous application and audition process before being offered a place and are then given an individual timetable, tailored to their specialism and created to challenge and inspire. Intensive workshops and master classes are also delivered throughout each academic year by visiting experts from across the UK.

As a registered charity, SMA’s aim is to provide exceptional tuition to students with outstanding ability and potential and provide support so that financial circumstance presents no barrier to learning. As one of only 15 Centres for Advanced Training in the UK, the Academy is predominantly funded by the Department of Education’s Music and Dance Scheme as well as support from sponsors, donors and partner organisations.

Under the Academy’s guidance, students have the opportunity to develop their talent, grow in self-confidence, achieve fulfilment through performance and in turn make positive contributions to the musical activities of their schools and communities.
