Doric String Quartet
The Doric String Quartet make time in their busy international concert schedule to visit Sheffield's Crucible Studio Theatre this autumn
The Doric Quartet enjoys an annual touring programme that traverses the globe. Following their recent debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall, their busy autumn and spring schedule takes them to Germany, Holland, France and back to the USA.
The Doric’s performance opens with an effervescent Haydn quartet, dedicated to Grand Duke Paul of Russia. Beethoven’s late quartets stand at the pinnacle of classical chamber music and, anecdotally, the Opus 131 quartet in C sharp minor was the composer’s own favourite. In Bartók’s striking Fifth quartet the composer’s love of Hungarian folk music is immediately apparent.
“These were performances of terrific panache and perception, seeming to get right under the skin of Haydn’s creative genius.” The Daily Telegraph
