A new(ish) dramatic cantata about St George, the story of Noah and the Flood, and some fun Shakespeare Songs

The Sterndale Singers celebrate St George's day with a trio of exciting works:

Many will have performed Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo as youngsters - but this great, fun piece works equally well in its four-part version for adult singers. The words are by Michael Flanders, of Flanders and Swann fame, and are as entertaining and as witty as you would expect. Joseph Horovitch's music is also entertaining, jazzy in style and brings the words and the story to life.

Robert wrote his Dramatic Cantata "George and the Dragon" for Bel Canto Choir in 2016 and at its premiere performance it went down a storm with great critical acclaim. The text (by Robert and his parents) is equally as witty as that of Michael Flanders, and the music, containing some very entertaining pastiche and full of leitmotifs for the various characters (especially the Dragon), is great fun. It will make use of the extra notes at the bottom of the massive Boesendorfer piano at St Andrew's.

The programme also includes some settings of words of Shakespeare by the highly inventive American composer Matthew Harris. In various styles - including jazz and bee-bop - these are well worth hearing.

The concert is at 6pm to make it more family friendly - all ages young and old are sure to enjoy this light-hearted concert.
