Schubert Piano Sonatas
A cycle of Schubert's major Piano Sonatas (concdert 2 of 4)
A cycle of Schubert's major Piano Sonatas (concert 2 of 4)
Schubert’s piano mastery takes the spotlight once more in the second of Tim Horton’s concerts devoted to the composer. The evening also demonstrates Schubert’s influence on succeeding generations: Liszt’s fiendishly challenging B minor Sonata is one clear example; while Schoenberg’s exquisite miniatures also owe a clear debt to Schubert’s Romantic style. The Sonata in G begins with a serene and seemingly never-ending melody and ends with a finale infused with upbeat Austrian folk melodies.
