Lunchtime recital by Sheffield's resident Ensemble 360
Adrian Wilson (oboe) and Tim Horton (piano) play French and English music for oboe and piano.
These sonatas by French composers Francis Poulenc and Camille Saint-Saëns are glorious pillars of the solo oboe repertoire, here beautifully complemented by oboe pieces from two of the 20th century’s greatest English composers, Britten and Elgar. While Saint-Saëns’ piece pays fond respects to the traditions of classical sonatas from an earlier era, Poulenc’s work has a dark and hauntingly beautiful tone.
