This evening opens with Mozart’s enchanting writing for oboe quartet followed by Poulenc’s tribute to a brilliant horn player and Messiaen’s mesmerising representation of the song of the blackbird. The first half ends with a new string quartet written especially for Ensemble 360 by Carmen Ho, winner of a Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize. The second half is devoted to Brahms’s glorious Piano Quintet, regarded as one of the finest works of Romantic chamber music.
