Carols with Albion: Sheffield 2023
The return of Albion's memorable, atmospheric December concerts that create a unique experience of Christmas, winter, and light-filled music
The return of the uniquely spectacluar Albion Christmas performances, in a sparkling new venue for 2023 - St Peter's Church in Greenhill, Sheffield.
We present a feast of wintry classics with the 'Albion treatment' - gorgeous new choral colours, soaring descants, and atmospheric arrangements - presented by a group of close friends for whom making music and sharing it with you is the most joyful and rewarding thing they can do together.
Carols to feature in this special homecoming performance will include "Ding dong merrily on high", "The Sussex carol", and "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" (get a little taste of that by following this link). Plus we'll revisit old but little-heard pieces from our repertoire including The Coventry Carol, The Truth From Above, and - taken worldwide by Apollo5 - The Angel Gabriel (listen to that one here). Plus, as always, there will be some new music especially created for this occasion and performed here for the first time.
We are also delighted to announce our special guests for this performance --- the contemporary-folk group FRETWORKS - who make their own instruments and will perform unique versions of many and varied festive tunes. Plus there might also be a one-off unannounced collaboration between the artists...
As is now our routine, we are making this concert PAY WHAT YOU WANT, and inviting you to bring as many people as you like to share our magical evening - so that the concert is as accessible as possible to you all. Concert duration approx 2hrs 15mins including an interval with refreshments.
