Kaoru Bingham - Passion, Recollection, Light

Kaoru Bingham
Group type: Soloists

Part of the Classical Sheffield Weekend 2023

Passion, Recollection, Light.

Kaoru will play six piano pieces by Brahms, three of the rather extrovert Cappriccio from his Klavierstücke (Opus 76) written when the composer was in the midst of his career and the Three Intermezzi (Opus 117) which were amongst his final works and which have a dreamy, graceful and reflective quality. Kaoru will also play Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 10 in C Major (K330) which the great musicologist Alfred Einstein described as “…a masterpiece, in which every note belongs—one of the most lovable works Mozart ever wrote.”

Born in Japan, Kaoru came to study piano at Trinity College, London. After winning all the major prizes there, she went on to teach at Trinity as well as establish a growing international reputation as a soloist. She made several CDs before taking a career break to look after her husband (the renowned Sheffield-born pianist, John Bingham) and baby son. After John's death in 2003, she remained in Sheffield and has gradually returned to performing locally and in Japan.
