Grand Sonata
A rush-hour concert celebrating Beethoven's 250th anniversary with a performance of his early E flat piano sonata
An uplifting rush-hour concert of gorgeous solo piano and a sumptuous duet for piano and oboe. York Bowen was a contemporary of Elgar and a celebrated concert pianist, and his enchanting Oboe Sonata is permeated by cheerful, expressive melodies and jazz-infused harmonies and rhythms. Beethoven’s early E flat Piano Sonata is upbeat and jaunty with a beautiful slow movement full of expression.
